Gael Clichy next club tips
FootyOn pick out Gael Clichy next club tips as the three-time Premier League winner leaves Manchester City.
After six years at the Etihad, City announced Clichy would follow Willy Caballero and Jesus Navas in leaving the Citizens this summer.
The left back lifted two PL titles in Manchester and will have plenty of suitors as the summer transfer window swings open.
So, in light of this, we’ve picked four Clichy next club tips.
PSG – 3/1
Clichy could fancy a return to France, too see out his playing days in his homeland.
The Parisians should be in the market for a new left back too, with 35-year-old Maxwell’s contract running out this summer.
This would leave only Layvin Kurzawa to occupy the defensive left flank, a man recently sidelined due to a knee injury.
Clichy to PSG, therefore, makes sense – a move that would provide cover and competition.
The Frenchman is believed to be among the capital side’s targets, but the club are in the midst of appointing a new sporting director – which could complicate things.
Southampton – 11/2
First choice left back Ryan Bertrand has told his Saints teammates that he expects to leave the club this summer – reports claim.
Therefore, a first team berth looks up for grabs with Clichy’s name on it.
The St Mary’s faithful are used to seeing their best players leave summer after summer.
However, Saints have shown the marvellous ability to consistently replace with quality.
Currently still managed by compatriot Claude Puel, Clichy could see this, and regular first team football as a better option than others.
Stoke City – 9/1
Mark Hughes has the ability to attract players to teams you wouldn’t expect, take Bojan Krkic and Xherdan Shaqiri as examples.
The Potters are in need of a left back, badly, as Netherlands international Erik Pieters is their only true player in that position.
A Stoke move would also be easier logically for Clichy, and wouldn’t have to move his family across the country to a city like Southampton.
Could Hughes pull off another big name signing? He’s 9/1 to bag Clichy before September 3rd.
Marseille – 10/1
With Europa League football next year, Rudi Garcia will look to strengthen his squad with necessary depth.
Both current Marseille left backs are over thirty, Patrice Evra (36) and Henri Bedimo (32).
Former Manchester United man Evra’s contract runs out next summer, so don’t be surprised if the L’OM look to take advantage of Clichy’s free agent status.
