Europa League semi-finals 1st leg tips
FootyOn pick out Europa League semi-finals 1st leg tips, as Ajax host Lyon and Manchester United travel to Celta Vigo on Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
Of the four remaining teams, only the Dutch outfit have reached a final in this competition, back in 1992 when they claimed the old UEFA Cup.
There is plenty to play for this season, as one of the clubs will be guaranteed a 2017/18 Champions League group stage place by lifting the trophy in Sweden on May 24.
None of the teams reached this stage with ease, having beaten their quarter-final opponents by a sole goal on aggregate, or on penalties in Lyon’s case. So, how will they do in the last four?
Read on for our Europa League semi-finals 1st leg…
Ajax v Lyon
Live on Wednesday, at 17:45 BST on BT Sport 3.
Ajax to win by 1 goal
French outfit Lyon reached the semis by the skin of their teeth, after eventually seeing Besiktas off on penalties 7-6, after a 3-3 draw.
Their league form has not been the best, losing two of their last three, but being 20 points behind third-placed Nice they know that the Europa League is their only route into next campaign’s CL.
Ajax are still battling on multiple fronts, but a loss at the weekend to PSV now puts them four points behind leaders Feyenoord.
These teams have had two ties against each other since the Millennium, both in the Champions League group stage.
Both meetings ended 0-0 in 2011/12, while Ajax came out on top 2-0 and 2-1 in 2002/03.
Back the Dutch giants to win by one goal in this first leg at 10/3 with Sky Bet.
Dolberg to score anytime
Danish wonderkid Kasper Dolberg has been a revelation for the Amsterdam club this season.
Aged just 19 and with one international cap to date, he has scored 19 times, including five in Europe.
According to the bookies, he is most likely to net for Ajax anytime again, with tasty odds of 7/5 with betway appealing.
Celta Vigo v Manchester United
Live on Thursday, at 20:05 BST on BT Sport 2.
Man Utd win with both teams scoring
It’s difficult to imagine, but United’s fitness problems have further worsened, as defenders Eric Bailly and Luke Shaw were the latest players to suffer injuries, during the Premier League draw with Swansea City.
However, key pair Juan Mata and Paul Pogba look set to feature, with the former recently making a return to the bench after being out for a month.
Thankfully for the Red Devils, Celta Vigo are in woeful form, having lost their last three in La Liga and five of their previous six.
With Man Utd having to likely play with a make-shift backline, though, back them at 5/1 with Sky Bet to win with both teams scoring.
Mkhitaryan to score anytime
Henrikh Mkhitaryan may not have hit top form domestically this season for Man Utd, but he has an impressive five goals in the Europa League.
They came in his last six appearances in this competition, which suggests he can be on target again.
With numbers low in the squad, Jose Mourinho will surely start the Armenia star.
Mkhitaryan has very enticing odds of 29/10 with BetVictor to score anytime in Spain.
