Thomas Tuchel at head of next Southampton manager tips
FootyOn writers pick out next Southampton manager tips after Claude Puel was sacked and Thomas Tuchel is tipped to take over.
The reserved Frenchman guided the Saints to a EFL Cup final, losing out due to a big Zlatan Ibrahimovic performance.
However, the nature of the Premier League these days means a manager is never secure in his job.
Puel had a poorer win percentage than his four permanent predecessors at St Mary’s.
So, in light of this, we’ve picked out next Southampton manager tips for you…
Thomas Tuchel tipped for job
Former Borussia Dortmund boss Tuchel recently left the Bundesliga boys after guiding them to the DFB Pokal.
He fits the profile of recent Saints coaches in that he’s well-regarded and from abroad.
Dortmund predecessor Jurgen Klopp came to the Premier League, so he could do likewise.
Frank de Boer an alternative if Saints want to go Dutch again
Ex-Ajax and Inter Milan manager De Boer, meanwhile, continues to be linked with Premier League jobs.
In the past, it’s been Newcastle United and more recently Crystal Palace.
Southampton have a great record of producing and nurturing young talent, which is exactly what De Boer did in Amsterdam.
Palace may be a pull because it’s in London, but De Boer is a best-price 9/1* with Paddy Power to take over on the south coast.
Mauricio Pellegrino also linked with PL positions
Like De Boer, former Liverpool assistant and Valencia boss Pellegrino is also mentioned as a candidate for Premier League vacancies.
He managed Alaves in La Liga this past season before resigning earlier this summer.
Pellegrino had brief exposure to English football as a player at Anfield too and that is advantage he holds over others.
Paulo Sousa best of outside shouts
Former Fiorentina manager Sousa has coached three teams in English football before; QPR, Swansea City and Leicester City.
All were in the Championship, but this is extensive experience. Since those spells, he has also managed in Hungary, Israel, Switzerland and Italy.
Couple that with playing in Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain and his native Portugal, and Sousa has vast knowledge.
Sky Bet make him an 18/1 outsider, but he’s the most curious of the contenders.
